Guide to magnet fishing / magnetic fishing

Magnet fishing is a fun and enjoyable hobby that everyone can be part of. In fact, you do not need more than a long rope and a strong magnet, and you have the chance to find some interesting and fun objects in the water.

Magnet fishing offers numerous benefits, it is fun, findings could be rewarding, and it helps clean the environment. You are contributing to sustaining cleaner water for everyone! To get you started, we have created the ultimate handbook for you to learn more about magnet fishing. Take advantage of all the useful tips and tricks we have included.

What can I catch when fishing with magnets?

Let us warn you now, commonly found items while magnet fishing will not always be as valuable as good or silver. However, do not let that deter you. Commonly found items consist of fishhooks, exquisite fish lures, or metallic nails. Even though they may not be worth as much as finding gold, with a little creativity you can repurpose your findings to something rewarding and memorable. The typical findings of magnet fishing are often not as valuable as good or silver.

When you first find an object, you often want to check whether it is sturdy enough to handle and will not immediately break. It is also equally important to be sure that the item you have found does not pose a security risk. It could be, for example, that the object(s) can damage your skin or that there is a “surprise” inside. So, it is important that you always take some precautions when handling your findings.

If you decide to keep the item you find, or were unable to sell the item, there are many ways to preserve your findings. Here is one example of what to do if you find fishing hooks. You may have no purpose of them, but it may be that there is a keen fisherman who can reuse them. Many of the items that you find do not always serve a purpose right away. But you can repair items found or make something new. An example could be melting the parts found from bicycles into a whole new bicycle.

Remember that all people are not the same. Therefore, keep in mind that different items will make different people happy. That should not stop you from going out and capturing something that will be valuable to you and no one else.

Locations to try magnet fishing

You can magnet fish in many places within Denmark. In this guide, we recommend that you fish in, for example lakes, checkers, channels, sewers, rivers, dams and watercourse.

Fun fact! You can technically magnet fish in any location with water, however some places are better than others as it is best not to be too deep and muddy. It is also important to consider fishing in places that are, or once were, frequently visited by people, such as urban areas or historic towns.

TIP: Try visiting the countryside and remote areas to increase your chances of finding items while magnet fishing. These locations are less likely to be visited today than they once were years ago.

Although it is important to fish in places that are not too muddy, sewers can still be good places, as there can be a lot of fun items that have ended up in there.

A good rule to follow is to always research the area before you start magnet fishing. It is important to note that if you are going to magnet fish, make sure you are entering public lands not private lands. If it is on private land, remember to always ask for permission to enter and fish on the land.
