While the distance prevents the magnets from properly gripping each other magnetically within the frame, you can compensate for the magnetism lose by adding four small neodymium magnets. These magnets, combined with the strong neodymium bar magnets already on the frame, ensure that the acrylic panels stay securely together even when you insert a thick item into the frame.
The only real ‘challenge’ is that there will be a gap around your artwork, allowing air and dust to enter when the item is thicker than 0.3 mm. However, this can be addressed by applying transparent edge banding or tape around the frame’s edge, or by leaving the artwork in the protective film it was delivered in. On the positive side, the thickness of the artwork increases the frame’s width, making it even more stable on a shelf or table.
