Magnets for glass boards

Strong magnets for glass board: All magnets in this category are strong magnets for glass boards. But did you know that not all magnets can be used for magnetic glass boards? It requires magnets with really high carrying capacity (strength). Choosing the right strength depends of the quality of the glass board, because it is not the glass itself on a magnetic board which is magnetic - it is the back side of the glass board that is made of magnetic steel. Our popular magnets for glass

Our bestselling magnets for glass boards are the 10x10 mm. neodymium magnets. They can be used on all magnetic glass boards. And, depending on the quality of the glass board, up to 10 sheets of paper can be hung under this magnet without either the paper or the magnet sliding down the otherwise smooth board.

Glass magnets

Glass magnets – or magnets for glass boards – face the challenge of needing to ‘work’ through a thick layer of glass, which is why very powerful magnets are required for magnetic glass boards. It’s because the glass itself isn’t magnetic; instead, it’s the steel plate behind the glass.

Loss of strength on glass boards

Even though the magnets have very high strength, approximately 70-90% of the strength is lost when there is 2-4 mm between the magnet and the board’s steel plate (i.e. the thickness of the glass plate defines the distance). Glass is great for writing on, but without super strong magnets, you won’t get far in using it as a magnetic board.

Can you choose magnets too strong for glass boards?

Yes you can!

Now that we have established that strong magnets are needed for glass boards, it is also important that you know, that they also cannot be TOO strong, because they can damage the glass. They will always be attracted to the strongest magnetic field (which in this case is the other magnets and not the glass board itself), leaving you with a big clump of magnets that are nearly impossible to separate – and worse-case scenario, the magnets may also break due to the impact at high speed.

Furthermore, you can cause damage to the glass board and the magnet itself with very hard impacts from the magnet directly against the glass. Therefore, we do not recommend choosing a load capacity of more than 26.5 maximum.
