Can the shape of ferrite magnets be changed by drilling or grinding them?
Drilling, grinding or sawing in ferrite magnets is not something we can recommend. The magnets are crude, so it can be done, but they are fragile and "brittle".
It is possible to process the ferrite magnets with a diamond drill or a diamond grinder with constant water cooling and at high rotation, so it happens quickly and without making the magnets too hot.
You can easily break a ferrite magnet into smaller pieces without affecting the magnetism (only the total strength of each piece). But you shouldn't expect straight edges afterwards, as the magnets are fragile as mentioned above.
How are ferrite magnets molded?
It is important to understand that the ferrite magnets do not get their magnetism until after processing the material they are made of. It is much easier to cast a magnet in the right shape from the start, but in turn it is more difficult to correct the shape in a nice way afterwards, since the material behaves differently when it's magnetic.
We have many different types of ferrite magnets, so we hope you can find a size and shape that suit your needs. Otherwise, do not hesitate to contact us to ask about a special size as we produce many magnets ourselves. It depends on how special a size and shape you need, what the minimum order is for custom manufacturing. But contact our customer service with an inquiry - and we will immediately look into what we can do to help you achieve your goals (in the most profitable way for you too).
