Magnets and washing machines

Most of the washing machines on the market is made of magnetic materials. For avoiding doing any damage on the parts of the washing machine, do we recommend that you are washing the clothes within magnets in a laundry bag. Also, you should choose the sparing program, and avoid washing in temperatures above 80 degrees Celsius, because the magnetism would get damaged at high temperatures. ** Even with this trick it is not that easy to use sew-in magnets with a sewing machine, because a lot of the parts of the machine is magnetic. In cause of doubt, we recommends you to sew on the magnets by hand.

Magnets for clothes

No matter in which case you are going to use the sew-in magnets for, you should avoid sewing through the air bubble right beside the magnet. As long as the plastic pocket is tight, the magnets would withstand both washing and light impacts. This is an important detail when you are using magnets for clothing, because a pair of pants with magnetic locking mechanism would be useless if it cannot stand a trip in the washing machine.

How to use sew-in magnets

There is a lot of blogs on the internet about DIY (Do it your-self) sewing with magnet projects. And it is not that difficult to use, if you are following those 3 easy steps:

  1. Make sure to pair the magnets with the plus (+) and minus (-) against each other (they are marked clearly on the edge if the plastic on each side).

  2. Sew one of the magnets in one of the parts (as an example a bag flap) and sew the plastic pocket tight unto it with straight stitches and zigzag if possible.

  3. Take the other magnet (double check that it is facing correctly, so it would be attracted instead of rejected from each other) and sew it on the same way as the other part. (as an example the bag itself).

Please pay attention to this! – It can be difficult to use sew-in magnets with a sewing machine, because machines do have magnetic parts. It can be done, but if it teases, we recommend you sew the magnets in the clothes by hand instead of using the machine.
