Ferrofluid - Magnetic fluid for experiments (10 ml.)
Description
Description
Ferrofluid is a ferromagnetic liquid that creates the most beautiful patterns when poured on top of a magnet.
Contents: 10 ml bottle.
NOTE! Remember to use a thick piece of glass or similar between magnet and ferrofluid so you can reuse the fluid!
The liquid contains small ferromagnetic particles (magnetite) that are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye (a few nanometers in size). The particles make the liquid react strongly to magnetic fields, and as soon as a strong magnet comes near the ferromagnetic liquid, a lot of spikes form (see photos).
We supply ferrofluid in a small black plastic bottle with a pipette, so you can easily dose all the way down to a single drop of the liquid. And 10 ml. ferrofluid is enough for several experiments if you don't empty the bottle in the first go. We recommend that you start by taking a piece of glass, plastic or similar, so that you have a solid and transparent surface the first few times you do experiments, because then you can easily see how the liquid reacts in relation to distance and movement of the magnet under the plate and with the liquid on top of the plate.
Warning!
Never touch your eyes if you have the liquid on your fingers or hands. Use gloves and preferably safety glasses when handling ferrofluid. And be aware that it stains both skin and clothes. So be careful!
Ferrofluid must be handled in the same way as engine oil - both in relation to the fact that it leaves stains but also in relation to disposal, when you have to throw out leftovers. Small amounts can be soaked up with paper towels and may be thrown away as residual waste. But larger quantities must be handed in at a recycling station.
