Ferrite magnets safety tips
Read this before buying ferrite magnets!
Magnets and electronic devices
Magnets should always be kept at a safe distance to electronic devices like pacemakers and hearing aids. Ferrite magnets are not that strong and will probably not harm the devices, but neodymium magnets are very strong and could damage the electronic devices. To be on the safe side, we recommend keeping both types of magnets at a safe distance.
Break easily
Ferrite magnets may break into pieces if you repeatedly put a strain on them. The splinters from broken magnets can lead to injuries to users or bystanders.
Loss of adhesive force
Neither ferrite nor neodymium magnets lose their magnetisation by themselves. They can only be demagnetised by external factors like heat or strong external magnetic fields.
Coating and surface
Ferrite magnets are not coated. The surface is uneven and the edges may have dents.
Neodymium vs. ferrite magnets
Strong neodymium magnets have the power to demagnetise or even reverse the polarity of ferrite magnets.
Transport
Magnets always have to be wrapped and packaged securely for transport. Small ferrite magnets have a rather weak magnetic field and are easy to protect. Ferrite and neodymium magnets should always be transported at a distance of at least 22 mm from each other (we recommend 30 mm). Otherwise, neodymium magnets can demagnetise or even reverse the polarity of ferrite magnets
Magnets are dangerous for children
Children are often attracted to colourful magnets. Sometimes, they even look like real food or sweets, which increase the risk of children putting the magnets in their mouths and swallowing them. If several magnets are swallowed, they could get stuck in the intestine and cause great harm to the body. So please remember that magnets are not toys! And make sure that small children don't play with magnets.
Temperature resistance
Ferrite magnets can be used at temperatures between -40 °C and 250 °C (while most neodymium magnets lose their magnetisation permanently at a temperature of 80 °C).
Outdoor use
Ferrite magnets are rust resistant and can therefore be used outdoors.
Not suitable for clothes
Ferrite magnets have a dark-grey colour and might stain when you rub them against something. Therefore, ferrite magnets are not suitable for use on clothing.
Size deviation
It's a bit complicated with ferrite magnets: Their height-related standard size deviation is +/- 0.1 mm; their width- and length-related deviation is up to 2%, but at least 0.1 mm.
