Magnets for Displates

Posters made of metal are super smart and are gaining more and more traction. One of the largest suppliers in Europe of the metal posters is Displates. We have received many inquiries about stronger magnets, so we have bought two for our showroom (one of course with Magneto on it), and we understand the hype around Displates: it is really good quality in both print and materials. And they are more durable than standard posters, so the lifespan is longer than the next party, an encounter with a cat or other things that can threaten the life of a paper poster. This sort of thing is largely avoided when the poster is made of metal.

This video is in Danish - but it should be easy to understand still, even if you don't understand a word Jesper is saying.

NOTE! Here we go in depth with the various challenges and proposed solutions. You can therefore quickly skim the text and jump down to the heading that best suits your plaque. But we recommend that you just use the approximately 5 minutes it takes to read the entire FAQ, so that you are best equipped to choose the best solution.

Stronger magnets for Displates

One of the areas where people may not be completely satisfied with the metal posters is when it comes to the magnets that hold the posters up. There can be many reasons why the included magnets are not strong enough: e.g. if they are to be hung in a place where there is often draft or wind, if there are vibrations from heavy traffic on the road or from a subway, or if the wall is slightly crooked. Then the supplied magnets may well come up short. In addition, a challenge is also that they don't stick as well to uneven surfaces like sawdust wallpaper, hessian and all that sort of thing. And that's why, as I said, we bought a couple of Displates ourselves in order to be able to better advise on this.

It is recommended that you use a minimum of 2 magnets per metal poster in the upper half of the poster; simply because it is easier to make them hang straight. You can make do with a single magnet per poster, but then it will very easily be pushed loose and hang crookedly, at the same time the magnet must be much stronger to equalize the weight all around the metal plate, and this can give you challenges with dents when the poster has to be taken down or moved. If you want to be extra safe and use both a waist belt and braces, you can also place 2 extra magnets further down.

Put up Displate posters with magnets

We have used these magnets for MEDIUM metal posters

For size M, our favorite is the recessed pot magnet Ø16 mm. (among friends also called MAGZ-312- P with a strength of almost 7 kg.). 2 pcs. of these is an excellent solution that provides both good hold and good stability in relation to getting the poster to stay in the same place, but at the same time you can still move the poster around and adjust it fairly easily without damaging the metal plate.< /p>

We have used these magnets for LARGE metal posters:
If we go up a size to model L, we naturally go also up in strength requirements and thereby magnet size. With 2 pcs. recessed pot magnets size Ø20 mm. (also called MAGZ-314 -P with a strength of approx. 11 kg.) the poster sits well and solidly on the wall. And again: you can easily add a few extra magnets at the bottom if you want to be extra safe - it may be that the poster needs to be able to withstand a little more than just normal. standard-parcel-house-needs.

But my poster is a different size... so what do I do ? Well, if it's XL, then it's just twice the size of an L, and then you need twice as much strength as for a LARGE poster. And if your poster is S, then it is half the size of a MEDIUM, and then you must also use half strength. However, we get the most inquiries about upgrading magnets for medium and large displates, so we have therefore included the magnets for these, so that the FAQ does not become infinitely long.

But what you don't want to or are not allowed to drill holes in the wall?

Many inquire about solutions without having to drill. And fortunately it is a narrow matter to avoid, so no need to panic.

You just need to use the right tape or glue!

The easiest solution is clearly to glue magnets to the wall with bonding tape - it can be placed on all kinds of clean surfaces, from sawdust wallpaper and bricks to glass and wood. And then it just sticks almost the same, without you having to wait for a few days of drying time. However, you have to buy a whole roll of it, so if you have no other need for setup than a few Displates, this is an expensive solution.

The other solution is to use a super glue that can be used for magnets. We recommend this Max Repair Superglue from UHU, which does not destroy the magnetism (quite an important detail). Here, you just have to be aware that the glue must have 48 hours or more to harden completely before you can hang your metal poster on the magnet. On the other hand, it sticks super well and is a fairly cheap solution without having to drill.

In the product overview above, we have shown magnets that can be used with screws (countersunk) or with glue/tape (flat pot magnets and rubber magnets).

We do not recommend these magnets

You were promised from the start that we have tested this thoroughly and that we would like to share our experiences with you, so of course this also includes telling us about what doesn't work:

Unfortunately, our glue magnets are not the optimal solution, as they are very smooth. This means that you have to place them much more precisely, so that the edge of the metal frame hits the top edge of the magnets, and a margin of error of just 3 mm. can unfortunately be seen. This can be avoided by choosing the strong pot magnets, where it doesn't matter so much if "the cat runs with the target", while you can easily change the position of the poster by up to 10 cm., because the pot magnets only have to catch the top half of the back of the poster. Therefore, you may find that you need to use many more glue magnets to reach the goal, and therefore it quickly becomes both a more difficult and a more expensive solution. By choosing a magnet with a metal pot or rubber coating, you get around this.

Should I know more about my Displate?

The possibilities are many and so are the solutions. Therefore, we have many more tricks up our sleeves if you have a challenge that is very special. And we have many different magnets in stock, so we also have a solution for you, even if you are not convinced that the above suggestions can be used for your metal poster.
