Did you know that you can use magnets on a hunting rifle? Not for shooting, but as a cartridge collector.
Let a magnet collect the cartridges for you
In our daily work with magnets, we help our customers find many different solutions, so when we were contacted by a group of recreational hunters who wanted help choosing a magnet to use as a shell gatherer while hunting - that is, one that could collect their empty bullet shells - we were of course ready to find a solution together with them.
A rubber magnet is the best magnet
We have many magnets that can handle the task in terms of strength, but since the magnet must also be able to withstand blows, wind and weather, the choice quickly fell on a rubber magnet. We tested 4 different sizes and the test winner was a rubber magnet 22x11 mm.
This is how to do it
Attach the magnet to your rifle right next to the cartridge outlet. Since rifles often have a magnetic surface you don't need to glue it on. You are now ready to shoot, and you don't have to bend down to pick up your empty casings from the ground. Simply use the rifle as your extended, magnetic arm, pick them up and remove the shells from the magnet afterwards. Then you can use your energy to keep an eye on your prey and at the same time protect your back.
If the rifle is not magnetic
If your rifle does not have a magnetic surface and you do not want to glue a magnet onto it, you can use a magnetic collector, which is a telescopic rod with a magnet at the end. It is easy to carry in your pocket, and you still don't have to bend down to pick up all the cartridge cases.
Magnets are more than just shell collectors
