Souvenir magnets

Are you crazy about lugging souvenir magnets home from your holidays? So here is a guide to what you should look for before you buy new magnets for the fridge.

Souvenir magnets - what are they?

You see them at all tourist destinations and attractions: the heavy magnets, which can only just hang on the fridge, but then you mustn't slam the fridge door or open the window either, because they will smoke down. They are often made with a ferrite magnet that is so heavy by itself that it struggles to hold both its own weight and the weight of the figure sitting on top of the magnet.

Are there good souvenir magnets?

Yes, there are indeed good (strong) souvenir magnets. Because there is a difference in which magnet you put on the back of the figures. And the manufacturers of souvenir magnets have finally opened their eyes to this. You'll probably have to pay a little extra to get one of the good magnets, but it's totally worth it if you want it to actually stick to the fridge or magnetic board.

Here they are. three magnet types

In order of priority, we recommend you go for the following:

  1. Power magnet
  2. Magnetic foil
  3. Ferrite magnet

Here you see what the three types of magnets look like, so you know what to look for on your holidays, from which you would like to bring home souvenir magnets:

At Magnetpartner.com we have a number of solutions to create the best souvenir magnets

The power magnet (photo no. 1 - the silver magnet) can usually hold both the figure up and a piece of paper or two on the fridge. And you don't need to hold on to this type of magnet when you close the fridge door.

The magnetic foil (photo no. 1 - the black surface) is also a reasonably good magnet, as there a large surface that can be attached to the refrigerator. However, you should not expect to be able to hang more than 1 piece of paper with them on the fridge.

The ferrite magnet (photo no. 2 - also called hobby magnets) has the disadvantage that it is inherently heavy. And when it has to hold its own weight and a hanging figure at the same time, it struggles. It is this type of souvenir magnet that is most common. It is cheap to produce. So you should be happy if it stays on the fridge. But don't expect it to hold papers. And don't slam the fridge door either if you want to keep the souvenir magnets in one piece.
