Magnetic lock for kitchen cabinets

f you have an old kitchen or an old wardrobe, you will surely know about a door or a drawer that hangs a little and won't close tightly anymore.

Use magnets for cupboards

With this little magnet trick, you can now close doors and drawers completely tightly in the kitchen, and the doors in the wardrobe no longer need to be closed either.

You will need magnets with glue that are paired with north/south (we sell all our magnets with glue in sets, so putting them together correctly is not a science). And if you use our magnets for cupboards as in the guide below, the magnets will sit perfectly opposite each other.

Magnets for doors

Here is an example of a wire shelf door - or a kitchen cabinet - standing and "yawning":

Magnets are a great solution to keep gaping cabinet doors closed

1) Clean the edge and the door where the magnets must be stuck. Let it dry completely. See our guide for cleaning here (you can't just use soap and water).

2) Prepare the magnets in a set (so that the sides with glue and foil point out in different directions).

3) Take the foil of one magnet. Attach it to the door and press firmly. Just let it sit for a few minutes before moving on to the next step...

Stick one magnet on the door. The magnet has self-adhesive, which makes it easy to mount.

4) Take a piece of paper and bend it a a few times (or two small pieces of cardboard) and hold over the magnet, it is already glued. Then put the second magnet on top with the foil facing out (this way they are automatically centered by the magnetism against each other, which is important to get the best result).

Use a piece of cardboard to center the second magnet. This way you ensure a nice result

5) Press the door together with the cabinet and hold the pressure for 1 minute. Then leave it in my. 24 hours, so that the glue is allowed to work. And then you can use the door or drawer again as normal - except that the cupboard now closes tightly.

The magnets are therefore both for cupboards, drawers and other places where you need magnetism to close very close.

Do you need stronger magnets?

It is quite possible to make a stronger solution with magnets for cupboards and doors. Then you just have to look here under the recessed magnets category - they can be screwed in and are much stronger than the magnets above.

In doubt about the solution?

It can be difficult to make a choice if you do not know much about magnets in your everyday life, so a good rule of thumb is that if it is a heavy door or a heavy drawer, where the magnet must not only hold something in place but also carry some weight or have other resistance, then you should choose a screw magnet for your project. But if it is just a small gap that could be nice to close tightly, you can usually use magnets with glue.

And if you are still in doubt, you are very welcome to contact us - we would be happy to advise you on choosing the magnets we think you should use.
